If you haven’t had a chance to read “Girl Boss” by Sophia Amorusa you absolutely must! In the New York Times bestseller that the Washington Post called "Lean In for misfits," Amoruso shares how she went from dumpster diving to founding one of the fastest-growing retailers in the world. And women are flocking to her concept of a life of passion and standing up to the man in droves, quitting miserable 9-5 desk jobs and moving forward in their lives with purpose. Research has showed that our society is now focused on balance in everyday life. Working 80 hours a week in a soulless job that brings home money is losing its luster slowly but surely. We’ve gone from “profit to purpose.” Much like Amoruso, it seems people are taking their lives back into their hands and “leaning in” to a healthier lifestyle.
We've been seeing a surge of hot new restaurants serving up healthy fare without marketing themselves as “healthy.” Organic, farm-to-table ingredients, grass-fed meats, vegan and gluten-free options, and even green juice cocktails are popping up on menus across the globe. People are juicing in London! That’s just crazy talk.
People are yoga, pilates, and exercise fanatics. With the Instagram frenzy, it’s hard not to want to improve your lifestyle when friends are posting pictures of their tanned and toned bodies drinking coconut water in some exotic location. It’s definitely a different look from the cigarette, drink-in-hand college pics we never would have shared in the past. Although I doubt those days are completely over either.
We are also finally seeing supply chain transparency in fashion starting to come to light as the internet is booming with information, making it hard to hide facts. We're seeing more companies such as Zady take this a step further to provide complete transparency in their supply chain, informing consumers about everything from when clothing was made, where it was made and what material was used to whether workers received fair wages to make it.
This is definitely good news for the future. So go grab some fresh air and a cold juice, you won’t regret it that’s for sure.
